In a two-day blacksmithing course with up to three participants, you'll learn to forge, grind, harden, and fit your own knife with your chosen handle. Duration: 2 days, 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM each day Schedule: Day 1: After a brief safety briefing and a discussion about the design of your desired knife, we'll begin forging. On the first day, you'll learn how to operate the power hammer and create a knife blank from your chosen steel. We'll assist you with the design and shaping of chef's knives, meat knives, hunting knives, outdoor knives, or replica/custom-made knives. You can also choose from a variety of local, tropical, and stabilized woods for your handle! Next, you'll shape the blade using a belt sander and an angle grinder (flex). After a delicious snack with coffee and cookies/cake, we'll continue with the final grinding of the blade. ... You'll begin by grinding the sides of the blade on a belt sander. The first day concludes with hardening in a high-quality hardening oven. Afterward, we temper the blades in our workshop. Day 2: Once you've chosen the handle wood for your custom knife, we'll begin the finishing touches. You'll start with coarse sandpaper and work your way up to a very fine grit to achieve a particularly rust-resistant and even surface finish. Next, you'll fit the handle: whether it's a tang or a flat tang, you'll learn the precise fitting, gluing, and sanding techniques on the belt sander, as well as the final hand-sharpening. At the end of the day, you'll oil and wax the handle and take your finished, razor-sharp custom knife home with you. ...
